The Gene Grawe Fund, Inc. has an ongoing need for a volunteer to keep our website updated and to create and send out our newsletters. This need is critical as there is no back up for our current volunteer.

THE GENE GRAWE FUND NEEDS A VOLUNTEER

Website Content Volunteer

Position Description

The Gene Grawe Fund needs someone to begin assuming responsibility for maintaining the content on our website GeneGraweFund.org. This person will also be responsible for creating and sending out the Gene Grawe Fund newsletters once or twice a week. This is a critical need as there is no backup for the current volunteer. If the current volunteer were to become unavailable for some reason, the Gene Grawe Fund would lose its ability to disseminate crucial information to over 1,800 families who support the Gene Grawe Fund.

Website content management is a specialty that involves the updating of information on a website using a content management system. A content management system is a set of software tools that allow someone to add, edit, and remove information on a website without the need to know website programming or markup languages. You will not be building a website, just maintaining its information.

This is an unpaid, work-from-home, volunteer position with initial training occurring in our webmaster's home, in your home, and occasionally in the Gene Grawe Fund office in The Church of St. Peter. The ideal candidate would be a retired person with time available and prior experience in the IT world. However, anyone with the time, at least some experience with computers, and a desire to learn the rest could be taught everything necessary to be successful in this position. If you can type, you can do this job.

Minimum Requirements

• A desire to help others in your local community and in the process help grow the Gene Grawe Fund.
• About 12-15 hours a week of your time. You set your own schedule.
• A telephone. Preferably cellular for texting.
• An Internet connection in your home.
• A desktop or laptop computer. This work is not something that can easily be done on a tablet or smartphone.

Ideal Technical Skills

• A proficiency with computers, software, and use of the Internet. If you have these, we can teach you the rest.
• Experience using email, file transfer software, search engines, image editing software, text editors, and website content editors.
• The Gene Grawe Fund website uses Joomla Content Management software. Any prior knowledge of Joomla would be an asset for you, but is not required as you will receive training.

Ideal Soft Skills

• A willingness and ability to learn and understand information relating to computers, the Internet, and websites.
• An ability to complete tasks accurately and in a timely manner to meet the occasional deadline.
• Good spelling, grammar, and a decent command of written English.
